Claude student discount: what's actually real in 2026
No individual Claude student discount exists. What's real: Claude for Education (school-gated), the free plan, and 15% off Pro billed annually.
The short answer
No, Anthropic doesn't sell an individual Claude student discount. Any site offering a "student discount code" for Claude Pro isn't affiliated with Anthropic. What actually exists: Claude for Education, an institution-wide plan schools buy for their students, plus the free plan, which costs nothing at all. There's also the standard 15% discount for paying Pro annually instead of monthly, the same discount anyone gets.

Claude for Education: the closest thing to a real discount
Claude for Education is the actual student path, and it's not something you sign up for yourself. Anthropic sells it to universities as an institution-wide license. If your school buys in, students, faculty, and staff get access through single sign-on, not by typing a personal .edu email into a form.
Per Anthropic's FAQ on Claude for Education, a school's plan typically includes a bigger context window (up to 500k tokens on certain models), advanced models, unlimited Projects, higher usage limits, and priority access. claude.com/solutions/education lists confirmed partner schools, including University of San Francisco, London School of Economics, Northeastern University, Champlain College, Northumbria University, Syracuse University, Dartmouth College, University of Virginia, and University of Pittsburgh.
If your school isn't on that list, a personal .edu email alone gets you nothing extra. Access depends entirely on whether your university has signed an agreement. That's a decision made by IT or procurement, not something an individual student can trigger.
Ask your university's IT department or library
Claude for Education is negotiated per institution, not self-serve. IT will know if a license already exists on campus.
Look for an SSO login option on claude.ai
If your school has a plan, you sign in through your university account, not a personal email you registered yourself.
Fall back to the free plan while you wait
Free still gets you real Claude, including web search and memory, at no cost.
The Claude Campus program
Separate from Claude for Education, claude.com/programs/campus runs two smaller tracks. Claude Campus Ambassadors are students who work directly with Anthropic on campus AI initiatives and get API credits plus a program stipend. Claude Builder Clubs are student-run AI groups whose members get Claude Pro access and monthly API credits.
“As of this writing, the Spring 2026 Claude Campus program is in session and applications have closed. Stay tuned for news about future updates.”
Treat this as a selective program for a small cohort, not a general discount. It's worth applying for if you want to lead AI work on your campus, not something every student can count on.
The ways students actually save money
Strip away the fake discount codes and three real levers remain.
The free plan. Claude's Free tier costs $0 forever, no card required, and includes chat, code generation, web search, memory across conversations, and file creation. For a student not covered by a school license, this is the honest default. See is Claude free for the full breakdown of what Free actually includes and where it caps out.
Annual billing. Pro runs $17/month billed annually versus $20/month billed monthly, per claude.com/pricing, a 15% saving. It's not student-specific, but it's the one concrete way any individual, student or not, pays less for Pro. Claude pricing explained covers every tier and what each one includes.
First-time promo codes. Anthropic occasionally runs limited promotions for new paid subscribers generally, not gated by student status. Per its own support article on coupons, these apply only to users who've never held a paid plan. They don't work through App Store subscriptions on iOS or Android, either.
The honest limit here
Claude for Education is genuinely free for students at partner schools, but that's a small and specific list. Most students reading this won't attend one of the named partners, and Anthropic doesn't publish a full roster or a self-check tool, so the only way to know is to ask your school directly. If nobody on campus has looked into it, you may be the one who has to raise it with IT.
The Claude Campus program is real too, but it's a competitive, limited-cohort program with a closed application window as of this writing, not a standing benefit.
Frequently asked questions
Does Claude have a student discount?
No. Anthropic doesn't sell an individual student discount for Claude Pro or Max. Any "discount code" you find for one is not issued by Anthropic.
Is Claude free for students?
It can be, but only if your university has purchased Claude for Education. In that case, you get Pro-level access through your school's single sign-on at no cost to you. Outside of that, students get the same Free plan as everyone else, which costs $0 but has an unpublished usage cap.
How do students get Claude Pro cheaper?
The only real lever is the same one available to anyone: pay annually instead of monthly, which drops Pro from $20/month to $17/month, a 15% saving. There's no separate student rate on top of that.
What's the Claude Campus program?
A small Anthropic-run program with two tracks, Claude Campus Ambassadors and Claude Builder Clubs, that gives a limited number of students Pro access and API credits in exchange for campus involvement. It's selective, not a general discount, and applications aren't always open.
If you're deciding whether Claude is worth paying for at all before you go looking for a discount, is Claude free and Claude pricing explained are the two places to start.
